Designing better cancer drugs using AI - round 2!
Given the amazing reception of our first protein design competition we decided to run a 2nd round. Same goal, more data, better proteins!
At Adaptyv, weโre building an automated high-throughput wet lab that allows anyone to become a protein designer. Just select what protein function you want to test, upload your designs and our lab will handle the rest.
In Round 1 of our protein design competition, 90 designers submitted 700+ protein designs with the goal of developing a new therapeutic by blocking a cancer-associated receptor called EGFR.
We then validated 200 proteins in our lab and found that 5 of those proteins actually show binding affinity to EGFR. That's 5 completely novel proteins that don't exist in nature or scientific literature and have passed the first validation to potentially become new cancer drugs.
To put this in context, just a couple of years ago, designing and validating a protein binder for a human receptor was reserved for a few pharma companies with lots of experts and specialized facilities.
You can find out all about that on this thread here (Twitter) or here (LinkedIn)
Now itโs time for Round 2 - same goal, more data: Protein designers can use the new dataset to inform their design strategy and create even better proteins!
In partnership with Polaris and Dimension Capital we also bring you new prizes and 5 in-person events to kick off the competition!
๐ The 3 winners will get to present at NeurIPS 2024 at the AIDrugX workshop
๐ On Oct 12 join us in Lausanne, London, Montreal, New York and SF for a day full of protein design talks and discussions!
Check out the full announcement here (Twitter) and here (LinkedIn)
Sign up here for the in-person events:
Looking forward to seeing many of you in person and all the cool protein designs youโll come up with ๐
